Padavettu is a action thriller film written and directed by debutant director Liju Krishna for Yoodlee films. The film starring Nivin Pauly, Aditi Balan and Shammi Thilakan depicts the story of the oppressed section of society in North Kerala.

What works

Padavettu, Another quality stuff from Mollywood. The film is trying to show a picture of a place. It is a great experience when the defeated hero and the defeated natives come together to fight. That experience is made possible by technical superiority. The theater experience is perfected with top notch making, power-packed performances, luscious camera eyes, thrilling music and loud political statements.

The beauty of the movie is the fresh treatment given by the director Liju Krishna to an ordinary story. Govind Vasantha‘s music and background music set fire to that fresh feeling. Deepak D Menon rocks it with his camera eyes. Nivin Pauly, a performer, gives the feeling of crashing into the burning fire at regular intervals. Padavettu is one of Nivin Pauly‘s best works in his career. He makes the tailor-made role even better with his physical transformation Ranganath Arun‘s sound design, which makes helplessness and silence terrifying, also deserves applause.

Padavettu is supported by the terrific performances of a handful of supporting cast. Shammi Thilakan reminds us that he is the hidden gem of Malayalam cinema with his extraordinary performance. Remya suresh done a fantabulous job and nailed with her terrific performance. Aditi Balan‘s was completely natural and perfect casting. Newcomer performances also fueled the film’s exciting moments.

What not works

Starts slow by establishing the characters and the surroundings that makes small lag but it’s OK and the script demand that. The fact that deforestation and development in the story of the film is only a part of a faction of the political party and the lack of clarity about the said events is a question mark.

Bottomline

A political thriller built with technical excellence!!!
