Neela Velicham is a Malayalam-language horror thriller film, directed and co-produced by Aashiq Abu under his banner OPM Cinemas. It stars Tovino Thomas, Rima Kallingal and Roshan Mathew in lead roles, with Shine Tom Chacko, Rajesh Madhavan, Abhiram Radhakrishnan and Pramod Veliyanad in supporting roles.

Ashiq Abu’s movie Neela Velicham is a proof that no work of art can become out-dated if the availability of technology is used to the fullest extent by making seasonal changes and giving the treat that time demands.

Based on Vaikom Muhammad Basheer’s novel Neela Velicham, the film directed by Ashiq Abu was technically superior in every sense.Director Aashiq Abu has placed emphasis on technical superiority beyond being a horror thriller, and the story told in Dark Tone is timeless and enjoyable.

Although the film lacks the use of silence usually used in horror films, Vishnu Govind’s sound mix adds to the horror mood of the film.Girish Gangadharan’s camera eyes have made use of the visual storytelling potential of the film as well. Bjibal and Rex Vijayan’s music is the rhythm of the film, with an emotional connection and a seamless mixing of yesteryear hit songs.

The VFX scenes included in the film were also impressive, especially Bhargavi’s “ghostly” scenes.Tovino Thomas, Roshan, and Shine gave the characters what they needed and stood strong for the film.

With few characters and a slow start to setting up the plot, the movie dragged until just before the first half. The film’s investigative scenes, which focused solely on the main character and left room to guesses, were also a major flaw. The beauty of the movie’s key scenes was harmed by Rimal Kalingal’s dramatic acting and dialogue delivery as the title character, Bhargavi.

Bottomline

Neela Velicham is a proof that no work of art can become out-dated if the availability of technology is used to the fullest extent by making seasonal changes and giving the treat that time demands.
