Maharaja is a 2024 Tamil action thriller movie written and directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, in which Vijay Sethupathi, Anurag Kashyap, and Mamta Mohandas starred in the lead roles, along with Natarajan Subramaniam, Abhirami, Munishkanth, Singam Puli, and many others in supporting roles. Jagadish Palanisamy and Sudhan Sundaram produced this film under the banners of Passion Studio and The Route.

The film’s most notable strength is director Nithilan’s screenplay, which is expertly handled. The way one scenario leads into another is quite fascinating, and it has been well-knit. The picture follows a nonlinear script approach, however it is not difficult at any point. The use of colours to delineate between the past and present allows viewers to better connect with and follow the plot, adding strength to the film’s flow. Dialogues are also worth highlighting, and the film’s documentation is adequate.

Nithilan is a fantastic find who has given consistently promising material after Kurangu Bommai, who has shown amazing promise, and we can anticipate him to deliver some outstanding material in the future.

The casting for the film was excellent, with the key performers, particularly Vijay Sethupathi and Anurag Kashyap, truly embodying their characters. Vijay Sethupathi returns with a bang after few supporting parts. This 50th film will be a significant contribution to his repertoire.Anurag Kashyap He does effectively in the second part of the film, where we see two distinct faces, and he has bravely taken on this role. However, there is a subtle artificiality to his performance, and we need time to be convinced.

The film’s technical work has been decent, with Ajaneesh Loknath’s soundtrack, Dinesh Purushothaman (DoP), and Philomin Raj (editing) all contributing significantly to the picture. Last but not least, you would leave the theatre in quiet, having been moved by the film. Such a powerful conclusion makes you weep.

However, there are some problems in the writing. The filmmaker has also used cinematic liberties in spots that appear unusual in a picture with this tone and style. If you can get past this, the entire film is highly relevant and emotionally packed. You would love a good piece of movie.

BottomlineΒ

An emotionally hard hitting masterpiece!!
