Kingdom is a Telugu-language spy action drama film written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. The film is produced by Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under the banners of Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. The film stars Vijay Deverakonda alongside Satyadev and Bhagyashri Borse. It is intended to be the first installment of a planned duology

This film is a masterclass in visual and auditory storytelling, thanks to the terrific visuals crafted by Malayali cinematographers Jomon T. John and Gireesh Gangadharan. The explosive background score by Anirudh Ravichander perfectly complements the on-screen action, making the well-executed action blocks truly thrilling and engaging. Vijay Deverakonda shines in his role, delivering a terrific performance that elevates the film and keeps viewers invested, especially in the well-staged first half.

However, the film’s momentum falters in the second half, making it feel like a lighter version of KGF, particularly in the final act. The plot bears some similarities to Suriya’s recent outing ‘Retro’ ,but it’s still a better effort. One major letdown is the film’s lack of emotional depth, which prevents it from reaching its full potential. If the movie had more emotional weight, the impact would have been truly explosive.

Despite its shortcomings, Vijay Deverakonda’s performance makes this film worth watching. It’s clearly his best outing since Arjun Reddy, showcasing his growth and versatility as an actor. The supporting cast delivers decent performances, with Satyadev making a strong on-screen presence despite predictable characterization. Venkitesh’s antagonist role brings a surprise factor, while Bhagyashree Borse has limited space. Gowtham thinnanuri’s writing shows capability, but there’s room for improvement.

The film’s uncompromised cinematic achievement is notable, with intense fight sequences that ditch rope gimmicks and no unnecessary songs or comedy parts. Overall, the film’s strong visuals, action, and Vijay Deverakonda’s performance make it an entertaining watch, even if it doesn’t quite live up to its full potential.

Bottomline

First half is great, but it falters in the second, feeling like a lite KGF and better version of Retro .More emotional weight needed. Still, Vijay Devarakonda’s best outing post Arjun Reddy.
