Kooman: The Night Rider is a Malayalam-language Investigative thriller film directed by Jeethu Joseph, and produced by Listin Stephen and Allwin Antony through Magic Frames and Ananya Films, with a screenplay by K. R. Krishna Kumar. The film stars Asif Ali, with Renji Panicker, Baiju, Baburaj, Riyas Narmakala, Hannah Reji Koshy, Jayan Cherthala, Pauly Valsan, Nandu, Meghanathan, Ramesh Thilak and George Maryan.
What works
With solid character work, The titular character Kooman was the backbone of the film. The twist and turn that comes in the intervals makes the movie stronger and the first half story telling is amazing. Jeethu Joseph, who gave a new dimension to the thriller genre in Malayalam cinema, shocks with his treatment in the first half. The film ends with a high point in the first half. Satish Kurup‘s camera, Vishnu Shyam‘s music, Asif ali‘s phenomenal performance and Jeethu Joseph‘s vision create the world of Kooman that interacts with the audience in a great way. Even the minor characters who appear in the film have contributed well to the film.
What not works
The second half was a bit longer than the first half. Although there were many sub-plots that made for thrilling storytelling, the film lacked a worthy ending. It also felt less that the movie was not able to give a high end to an extraordinary high build-up put forward by the movie. The second half also felt predictable at times.
