Sumathi Valavu is a Malayalam-language horror comedy film directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar and written by Abhilash Pillai. The film stars Arjun Ashokan, Gokul Suresh, Saiju Kurup, Balu Varghese, Malavika Manoj and Sshivada in prominent roles.

This film kicks off with a promising horror genre narrative centered around Sumathi’s haunting stories, but unfortunately, it loses its way after the first half. The story takes an abrupt turn towards a love story, and the genre change feels forced and jarring. The final act fails to leave an impact, and the horror elements seem unjustified and disconnected.

The second half struggles with writing issues, and the attempts at comedy fall flat. The narration style, reminiscent of 90s storytelling, feels like spoon-feeding and comes across as irritating, especially given the film’s 90s setting. The director’s choice to stick to this narrative style doesn’t quite pay off.

Overall, the film’s potential is wasted due to its inability to balance its genres and narrative effectively. Despite its intriguing start, the movie fails to deliver a cohesive and engaging story, making it a disappointing watch.

Bottomline

Wasted opportunity!!
