Pakalum Paathiravum is a Malayalam movie, directed by Ajai Vasudev and featured Kunchacko Boban, Rajisha Vijayan, Manoj K.U. and Seetha as lead characters. Other popular actors who were roped in for Pakalum Paathiravum are Guru Somasundaram and Gokulam Gopalan.

What works

The film opens with Faiz Siddiq’s camera showing us the serene and green Wayanad, where the story unfolds in a small house. In fact, the scenes just juggle between the house and a liquor shop located nearby. Initially, the film revolves around three actors: the husband (Manoj KU), a drunkard; his compassionate wife (Seetha); and their daughter (Rajisha Vijayan), a frustrated but fearless woman.
The man (Kunchacko Boban) with a secret suitcase opens a brilliant twist about how greed, lust, and desire can overpower values like love, empathy, and compassion.

With minimal characters, the film has turned out just fine. The actors know their roles and have excelled in them. KU Manoj, Kunchacko Boban and Rajisha Vijayan portray the role with ease as usual. Guru somasundaram makes an impression.Sam CS’s background score complements the fast screenplay. But Stephen devassy’s the songs are just okay.

What doesn’t work

Suspense thrillers can be classified into two types – a badly executed film that gives away all the elements in the first half, encouraging the audience to walk out of the theatres in the intermission. The second one knows how to exactly control even the blinking of the audience’s eyes. As Pakalum Paathiravum belongs to the first category.

The film is an adaptation of the Kannada film Aa Karaala Ratri. With his resources, Director Ajai Vasudev has extracted the minimum, and it is evident on the big screen.

What happens when a bunch of seasoned actors join hands with a clever director? Aa Karaala Ratri (The Intense Dark Night), aka a suspense thriller, makes quite an impact, but come to Pakalum Paathiravum, the film does not manage to keep the audience on the edge of their seats despite unexpected twists and turns leading to an unseen climax.

Ajai Vasudev, who has worked with Mammootty (three mass commercial entertainers) in the past, has demonstrated this time that a suspense thriller can be crafted with well-known actors devoid of the routine ingredients. But still, director Mark Chester was visible on screen and turned out to be the main drawback to the film. Ajai Vasudev’s screenplay failed miserably due to its spoon-fed writing and out-dated making.

The main character role of Seetha turned out to be miscast, and she terribly failed as a performer. That makes it fail to create intensity.

Bottomline

Decent plot ,Out dated Making!!
