Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu Part 1: The Kindling is a Tamil-language musical gangster film directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, written by B. Jeyamohan and produced by Ishari K. Ganesh. The first installment of a planned duology, the film stars Silambarasan and Siddhi Idnani, with Raadhika Sarathkumar, Siddique, Neeraj Madhav and Aangelina Abraham in supporting roles, the film has music composed by A. R. Rahman.
What works
Gautam Menon back with his Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya times with his his strong narration. Gautam Menon style of narration really works in the rise of Muthu. AR Rahman elevate the scenes and balanced the mood of the film with his original score. Neeraj Madhav’s rap composition gave goosebumps in the crucial action blocks. Interesting plot leads to second part is really convincing and sequel idea is worked out well.
Silambarasan nailed as Muthu, a innocent 21year old boy.it should be his next phase of his career and sequel must be milestone for him as an actor. Siddhi Idnani done her role neatly, and good in romance portions. Neeraj Madhav is good with his limited role, but remains mystery and more screen time waiting for sequel. Another strong presence in the cast is Jaffer Sadiq, his screen presence is terrific.
What not works
Slow narration is not effective in the movie because of the genre, a gangster flick and lags bit in the first half. love track between the lead pair is not great one like previous Gautam Menon films.

Watchable gangster tale leads to grand sequel!!!
