Expectations
Many ways Thiruchitrambalam is hot topic among dhanush fans. It’s Dhanush‘s first theatrical release after 2 years. Mithran R Jawahar, second only to Vetrimaaran, has reunited with Dhanush for the fourth time after Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Kutty, and Uthamaputhiran. Thiruchitrambalam also has Dhanush and Anirudh collaborating after 4 years.
Another factor behind the hype is that the film is produced by Sun Pictures and distributed by Red Giant Movies.
What works
Mithran R jawahar is a director who has given a handful of feel-good entertainers to Tamil cinema. This time with Thiruchitrambalam also the director has followed the same path.
It is because of the Mithran touch, the film was an emotional conveyance to the audience despite the familiar story premises. The director has succeeded in effectively applying the equation that Tamil cinema has tried many times.
Dhanush and Nithya Menon have carried the entire film on their shoulders. Dhanush’s character Pazham reminds VIP Raghuvaran and feel like neigbour boy. Nithya Menen captures the audience with her screen presence. She is a full package and share equal screen space with Dhanush. Bharathiraja was impressive with his one liners and his comic timing. As usual Prakash Raj was fabulous in two shade character.
The chemistry and emotional bond of the lead actors adds another dimension to the film. Comedy track with Bharathiraja-Dhanush, emotional track with Prakash Raj-Dhanush, friendship track with Dhanush-Nithya menen are the major assets to the movie.
Priya bhavani shankar and Raashii khanna had done neat job with limited screen space in the movie. Editor Prasanna handled the film with care and cuts neatly. Om prakash lenses are brilliant and superb in song visuals especially ‘megham karukkutha’ track.
Anirudh ravichander, the backbone of Thiruchitrambalam and steal the show. Everytime Anirudh strikes with mass tunes, but this time he mesmerize and emotionally elevate the sentiments with his magical music and turned out to be another feather to his cap.
What not works
Thiruchitrambalam was familiar to the audience with tried scenes and situations, and also predictable from start to end. It also gives a Velai illa pattadhaari vibe which is the biggest hit of Dhanush’s career. The back story is not much strong as they built up.
Bottomline
Tested and tried formula ,still working.
A light hearted entertainer!!!
