Expectations

Netflix has reportedly put in USD 200 million (Rs 1,598 crore) on the movie budget making The Gray Man the most expensive project for the streamer yet. With crores of rupees going into the making, the anticipation from it is sky high.
There is a lot of buzz swirling around The Gray Man, Directed by the seasoned Marvel movie directors the Russo brothers, the film, on its own, would have triggered a lot of anticipation,But it carries even more expectations in india because it marks the Hollywood debut of Dhanush-one of the most talented Indian actors now.

What works

Think of a blockbuster Hollywood action thriller, and you are likely to find a few common elements – a high-stakes setting, car chases, superhuman action sequences, and very clearly demarcated protagonists and antagonists, usually hyper masculine . The Gray Man has all of these elements with heavy casting.

The actors do their best. Chris Evans is absolutely fantastic as the psychotic Lloyd Hansen, such contrast from Captain America Not easy to pull it off. Ryan Gosling is great, too.

Dhanush plays an important character, though the screen time is relatively less. He gets the best introduction scene in the film. They gave a beautiful flight intro and a terrific fight scene.

The action and combat scenes in The Gray Man are grand and impressively choreographed. The cinematography by Stephen F Windon (of Fast and the Furious fame) is pacy, chaotic yet seamless in these scenes with the camera sometimes rapidly zooming sideways and tilting to follow the action. Action buffs will enjoy the myriad of explosions, chases, and shootouts in the film, along with some stylish hand-to-hand combat.

What not works

Despite all that The Gray Man has going for it, one cannot help but expect more from the directors – Anthony and Joe Russo. The duo directed two of the most popular films to have come out from the Marvel universe – Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War ,but this time miserably failed to make a good product.

This is another mediocre story of a spy espionage thriller from Hollywood, but with possibly the biggest production budget to date .It is stylish & entertaining. But it lacks originality, essentially seeming like a ripoff of all famous espionage movies. And some of the dialogues are cringe.

Dhanush’s screen time is relatively less, wasted it when they introduced him as lonely wolf but his part isn’t connected well to the story.
.

Bottomline

For action scenes, can be seen once!!
