Thallumaala is a Malayalam language action comedy film directed by Khalid Rahman. Written by Muhsin Parari and Ashraf Hamza, the film is produced by Ashiq Usman. The film stars Tovino Thomas, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Shine Tom Chacko in lead roles.

Expectations

Expectations are high on Thallumaala even as Tovino thomas films are set back in the theater business due to successive failures. Right from the first poster release, the positive vibe of the movie is not small. The songs and trailers that followed are reminiscent of the color-filled entertainers from yesteryears, and that’s why the film has a special craze among the youth.
Director Khalid Rehman‘s past track record also fuels to expectations. The best technical team behind the film is Asset for Thallumaala and expecting the best opening in Tovino‘s career.

What works

Director Khalid rahman has managed to create ups and downs in the storyline by presenting a simple and flat story with non-linear format. Khalid rahman did not delve into the story and screenplay but tried some technical brilliance in Thallumaala that is not familiar to Malayalam cinema.

Cameraman Jimshi Khalid often impresses with brilliant visuals for a youth-filled entertainer. Vishnu Vijay has also graced his part by providing the most creative background score and songs. The role played by music in creating elevation according to the mood of the film is no small. The editor Nishad yusuf also played a major role in finishing without much drag.

What is worth mentioning and has become an asset to the film are Supreme Sundar‘s action sequences, those action scenes that gave the film the theatrical moments it needed. There is no doubt that theater action block and climax action block stand tall in Malayalam cinema.

Tovino thomas gave everything to the character and stand out with a fresh makeover and screen presence. Shine Tom and other characters were the backbone of the movie. especially in action blocks. Kalyani priyadarshan shines as Paathu, her Swag is good.

What not works

Not only does it offer nothing story-wise, non-linear storytelling creates more confusion and not appeal to anyone other than targeted youth audience.Song placement was often out of place. In many situation that could have been summed up in two words has been abhorred by songs.

Bottomline

One time watchable ”colourful Idi padam”, that works only in theatre atmosphere!!!!!
