Expectations
Sardar is Karthi‘s film coming after the huge success of Ponniyin Selvan. The film is directed by PS Mithran, who made his debut with the block buster film Irumbu Thirai. The follow-up Hero achieved only average success. However, the subject of the film was debated. Karthi is seen in various getups and the trailer promises to be a spy thriller. The audience is also curious to know how Mithran has handled Spy Genre, which has been rejected by audience in kollywood many times.
What works
The highlight is that the subject dealt with by Sardar and the research done by director Ps Mithran are clearly seen in the screen. It is designed to be action packed without too many complications and is presented as a mass action spy thriller. George c william‘s lens delivers visuals that validate the film’s magnitude. GV Prakash‘s Back ground score supported the convincing twists and action blocks delivered at regular intervals.
Karthi’s screen presence and double role avatar was a feast for the eyes. Karthi‘s growth after each film is worth mentioning. Emotional scenes with Karthi-Master Rithvik were worked out and Rithvik held the audience in his hands with a cute performance.
Raashi khanna, Rajisha vijayan and Laila‘s performances were good though limited. Chunky Pandey‘s villainous charector is reminiscent of his previous roles but stands out.
What not works
Here again the main problem facing commercial mass entertainers is evident. G V Prakash‘s mediocre songs in Forced Place was the speed breaker of the film. The movie’s running time of around 3 hours also affected the enjoyment of the movie and it lags bitβ¦
Not only did the director fail to develop the father-son emotional angle, but the second half also lacked depth for many emotional scenes. The film also fails to convey the director’s vision to the audience in the same way as it enters the final parts of the story. Sardar does not deliver a grand finale act due to poor execution in the climax.
Bottomline
Honest attempt, Nothing more nothing less!!
