Rorschach is a psychological thriller film directed by Nisam Basheer, written by Sameer Abdul, and produced by Mammootty through Mammootty Kampany. The film stars Mammootty, Grace Antony, Jagadeesh, Sharafudheen, Kottayam Nazeer, Sanju Sivram, and Bindu Panicker. The film’s music was composed by Midhun Mukundan.

What works

It is a challenge as a director to take an idea that has not been tried in Malayalam cinema, believably and in a way that keeps the audience engrossed in the story. Craft man Nizam Basheer wins because of that execution and making. The magic of setting the character and setting and creating a world that draws the audience into it is possible due to two factors. Those two elements are the music director Mithun Mukundan and the cameraman Nimish Ravi. Mithun Mukund‘s music was the soul and nerve of the film. Even after the the movie, that English song and the background score are still haunting.Nimish Ravi‘s breath-taking visuals stand as a pillar in the audience’s journey with the character.
Sameer Abdul, the writer who moved the pen for a film rich in complex character creation, deserves a huge applause. Who else but Mammootty can do the complicated mental state of the character of Luke? Mammootty is terrific as Luke.
Rorschach presents Bindu Panicker‘s career-best role. The storywise, Bindhu panicker‘s role can be described as the Soul of the film, was safe in the making. Grace Anthony also delivers some great acting moments. Sharafudheen and Jagadish gave the brilliant performances and stood out.

What not works

Slow narration may not be work out by all the audience, but the plot demands. The mood of the film is affected by the fluctuations that the film deals with psychological and supernatural mood as it approaches reality. The climax was compromised with the aim to commercial market and delivered the typical feel-good mood. The lack of commercial elements, that would not appeal to all types of audiences and may also alienate family audiences.
