Paappan is an upcoming Indian Malayalam-language crime thriller film directed by Joshiy and written by RJ Shaan. The film stars Suresh Gopi in the title role along with Gokul Suresh, Nyla Usha, Neeta Pillai, Asha Sharath and Kaniha in supporting roles. Produced jointly by Gokulam Gopalan, David Kachappilly and Raaffi Mathirra, the film features original score and soundtrack composed and produced by Jakes Bejoy.
Expectations
Expectations are set high for the film by the audience as the Suresh Gopi – Joshiy combo has never failed to create magic on screen. Their last collaboration was for the superhit film βVazhunnorβ which was released 22 years back.
What works
A superstar film, without superstar gimmicks, needs to have some specificity in the making. That’s where the relevance of veteran director master craft man Joshiy comes in. Joshiy handled the Cliched Story with care and well executed.
Suresh Gopi handled the role of retired police officer very well. He was great in emotional scenes.
Even with the presence of a superstar, Neeta Pillai stood out in the film. The reason why Neeta Pillai stands tall in the movie is that she did not go for comedy like the muscle-bound female policemen seen in Malayalam movies. She Is fab In police swag.
The film also have great supporting cast with Gokul Suresh, Kaniha, Nyla Usha, shammy tilakan and Asha sarath. All of them play their parts well and add to some surprises to the movie.
Jakes Bejoy has done his job well by composing the background music which is apt for the mood of the movie. Ajay david kachapilly handled the camera superbly. Top notch in night shots
What not works
Not the typical mass movie that we are used to from the Joshiy-Suresh gopi combo, An investigation thriller that’s 3hour too.It stands as a truth, As an investigation thriller, the 3-hour running time affects the thriller mood.Duration could have been trimmed a bit. It should be mentioned as a drawback of the movie that many characters and many storylines often confuse the general audience.

A well made engaging crime drama!!!!!
