What works

Lijo Jose Pellissery ‘s films raised discussions on various subjects but the film maker never lectures about his intentions in his movies. He offers us an immersive experience and make us think.
The way Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam starts itself shows how well Lijo has control over his craft. Then slowly the sound of the television fills the background and turned out be the main back ground score of the film. It provides to the soul to the movie & ensures engaging till end.
The film keep us invested through its amazing characters and scenes that authentically reflect the Tamil Village life. For those only familiar with the city life, the film transports you in to different world.

Thanks to Theni Eswar, who led the camera. The frames look extremely aesthetic and at the same time convey a lot. He shots brilliantly and fix the camera in the right places. The sound department team paint a beautiful soundscape, offering us a great watching experience.

The performance of the lead, Mammootty delivered another level performance and stand out above the technical supremacy. Not just the trained actors but every single actor in this film stands out. The entire village comprises untrained actors and extracting such performances and None of them look into the camera at any point, unless the scene requires them to.

What doesn’t work

The realistic approach and slow pace may be not work for the commercial viewers. Lack of punch in the climax is also a flip side. but the film’s content has enough to satisfy and entertain you. Overall there is humor, there is emotion , there is hallucinations , and everything in between, in Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and has the potential to end up as a class attempt!

Bottomline

Class attempt!!!
