Mumbaikar is a 2023 Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Santosh Sivan. A remake of the Tamil film Maanagaram (2017), it stars Vikrant Massey and Vijay Sethupathi. This marks Sethupathi’s Hindi film debut.
Thrill, comedy, romance, actionβall the ingredients are present in Mumbai Kar. But director Santhosh Sivan did not care to develop it properly. That’s where the original version, the 2013 Kollywood hit Maanagaram, stands out. The music director also fails to prepare the background music to give the required elevation to the action scenes, comedy and thrilling moments. The writer also turns Mumbaikar into another bad remake without enabling the identity and character development of the characters. Santosh Shivan’s offbeat narration harms the enjoyment of the movie.
Vijay Sethupathi’s Bollywood debut can be described as impressive, but the limited screen space is biting. In the same way Sachin Khadedkar and Ranvir Shorey are struggling with ruined communication because of limited screen time, Vikrant Massey, Hridhu Haroon, Tanya, and Sanjay mishra have done their roles neatly.
