Liger is a sports action film written and directed by Puri Jagannadh. Shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi languages, the film is produced by Dharma Productions and Puri Connects. Vijay Deverakonda stars as the titular MMA fighter boxer alongside Ananya Panday, Ramya Krishna, Ronit Roy, and Vishu Reddy in pivotal roles. American boxer Mike Tyson plays an extended cameo, thus making his acting debut in Indian cinema.

Expectations

The trailer of the film, which was released recently, received a good response from everywhere and continues to trend on social media. Thus, all eyes are on the film, which is an action drama, clearly presented in Puri’s signature style. However, there are equal number of doubts that are associated with the film, especially with regards to its box office performance

Vijay Deverakonda is a charming actor who gathered attention and fame after the release of the Arjun Reddy movie. This movie was remade in other languages as well following its success. Geetha Govindam is also a hit movie from his side. Dear Comrade movie was also well received by fans. But few movies of Vijay Deverakonda were not as expected by the fans.

What works

Vijay Deverakonda carried the film entirely on his shoulders. His commitment to becoming an MMA fighter is admirable, and the amount of effort he put in for the film is visible on screen. Ramya Krishna plays a good character with a few emotional scenes.

Vishnu Sharma‘s cinematography is adequate. A few elevation scenes and dialogues helped with the story’s setup, but there was nothing else to mention.

What not works

Liger is an age-old story with flat narration has been added with some ridiculous twists and unwanted songs. . The screenplay is ordinary. The songs are not interesting and misplaced. The background music is not impactful.

Vijay deverakonda transformed well, but his stammering is unsuitable. Director Puri jagannadh‘s greatest strength is his hero characterization and dialogue, but in this film he went completely over the top and it borders on cringe-worthy. Ananya Panday‘s role is dreadful. The romantic track between the lead couple is a test of patience. Even when it isn’t necessary, the young actress tries to be bubbly in every frame. The heroine role is exhausting in general. Convincing world-famous heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson to appear in a Telugu film is a huge accomplishment. However, his part was written so poorly that it is meaningless and clumsy. Mike Tyson regrettably plays a forgettable role. The rest of the actors have bits and pieces of roles which are instantly forgotten.

The silly climax and second half of the movie is a big torture to the viewers.

Bottomline

A Pan-India torture!!!!
