Laal Singh Chaddha is a Hindi-language comedy-drama film directed by Advait Chandan from a screenplay by Eric Roth and Atul Kulkarni. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Viacom18 Studios, it is a remake of the 1994 American film Forrest Gump which itself is based on Winston Groom‘s 1986 novel of the same name. The film stars Aamir Khan as the title character alongside Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya (in his Hindi film debut) and Mona Singh.
Expectations
Trade views Laal Singh Chaddha as the life breath of Bollywood, which is reeling from failures in the post-Covid situation. Global market of Aamir Khan movies and as All time Cult Classic Forrest gump remake the movie gives minimum guarantee even before its release. A very effective promotional method will also benefit the film’s opening but the current Bollywood box office status it will depend on word of mouth publicity.
Laal Singh Chaddha, directed by Advait chandan after the global box office blockbuster Secret Superstar. Aamir khan acquired the Forrest Gump remake rights after long negotiations. Hollywood production giant Paramount Pictures has acquired the global distribution rights of the film.
What works
The film succeeds in depicting the growth of the title character Lal Singh Chaddha and Indian political and social changes in a thread. Sometimes the movie gets closer to the audience with some feel good moments and emotional moments. Satyajit pandey‘s visuals were outstanding and the visuals were of great importance in portraying Lal Singh’s world to the audience. Pritam‘s music was also good.
What not works
Writer Atul Kulkarni failed miserably in transplanting the world classic Forrest Gump into Indian culture. Laalsingh Chaddha doesn’t offer the magic or emotional connection that Forrest Gump did. It creates a headache for the audience without connecting logically or emotionally in any way.
Actor Aamir Khan has always mesmerized us with his acting skills, but here Aamir khan gave us disappointment. Title character Laal Singh Chaddha is only a continuation or extension of the character Samar from Dhoom3.
Except for the title character, all the other characters seem to have lost their soul due to the weak writing. Not only that badly affects the feel of the movie and but no character sticks in the mind.
