Kumari is a Malayalam movie. The movie is directed by Nirmal Sahadev and will feature Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shine Tom Chacko, Swasika and Surabhi Lakshmi as lead characters. Other popular actors who were roped in for Kumari are Tanvi Ram and Shivajith.
What works
One of the positive side of the movie is an interesting fantasy thread. The story is as straight as a Muthashi Katha, the story premise and the Abraham joseph‘s visuals and Jakes bejoy‘s background music justifying it all give Kumari the fantasy mood it needs. The production design, which evokes the craftsmanship of old era, was also excellent. Aishwarya Lakshmi wins applause with her excellent performance despite the presence of many great stars.
What not works
Kumari is testing the audience’s patience with the slow pace of the story, and also drags on with a running time of two hours and 19 minutes. Despite having a good fantasy thread, the writer not being able to develop it properly and wasted a good chance and drags with same point, despite gaining momentum closer to the interval.
Although the first half is good, Shine Tom spoils the character by being over dramatic in the second half. The action scenes between the supernatural powers that break the fantasy mood built up until then also affected the discomfort.
Bottomline
A fantasy film with limited appeal, Decent!!
