“Kondal” is a Malayalam action drama directed by Ajit Mampally, starring Antony Varghese Pepe in the lead role. The film’s screenplay is written by Ajit Mampally, Roylin Robert, and Satheesh Thonnakkal.
After the initial 15 minutes Kondal is turning to typical revenge drama mode but in different backdrops.The basic style is same, except for the location. The movie struggles to build up the drama and takes time to set up the plot. However, Sam C.S.’s background music and the action sequences add weight to the narrative. Unfortunately, the second half lacks emotional depth, and the backstory isn’t well-developed, making it an average revenge drama.
Antony Varghese Pepe shines in his role, with his physique and body language convincingly portraying a fisherman. His performance in the action sequences is particularly impressive, delivering impactful punches on the big screen. However, Raj B Shetty is underutilized in his brother character, and his portions feel unnatural and lack impact. Shabeer makes a good antagonist, though.
Technically Kondal is well crafted, especially the boat and sea surroundings. VFX could have been better in some portions.
Bottomline
“Kondal” has its moments, but falls short of being a compelling revenge drama due to its predictable storyline and lack of emotional depth.
