Superhero movies familiar to Hollywood have also been experimented with in Indian cinema, with the release of Mr. India, the first superhero movie in 1987. The blockbuster movie launched the superhero genre in the Indian film industry. A number of superhero movies have arrived in Bollywood, Kollywood, and Mollywood. Krrish, Ra One, and Minnal Murali were also noticed.
Kollywood also saw the emergence of countless super hero films, but the truth is that there were no films that did justice to the genre except Enthiran and 2.0, and Enthiran was celebrated as a science fiction film. It is also ironic that the super hero character turns into a disguise when the movies hit theatres, where the superheroes are hyped for marketing.
Movies like Vijay’s Velayudham, Vikram’s Kanthasamy Jeeva’s Mugamoodi, and Sivakarthikeyan’s Hero are films that have come under the super hero category. Velayudham was successful as a commercial entertainer, was nowhere near the superhero genre. All the other films were huge failures. Minnal Murali appears in Malayalam cinema at a time when the superhero genre needs visual effects and a big budget. The character, who can be said to be a pure desi superhero, was directed by Basil Joseph and starred Tovino Thomas. It was released on Netflix and became a huge success.
Veeran is a new movie that tries its luck in the failed genre of Kollywood, hip-hop Adhi was played the lead role in the movie, directed by Maradhaka Nanayam fame director ARK Saravan. The director claimed that the film is a complete contrast to Minnal Murali, even though he looks similar. Trade is looked at to see whether the film hit or not, which was released the first week of June, also failed to impress the audience. Veeran received average reviews from critics and earned only average business from theatres.
