Indian 2 is a Tamil-language vigilante action film directed by S. Shankar, who co-wrote the script with B. Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu and Lakshmi Saravana Kumar. The film is jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies. The sequel to Indian (1996), Kamal Haasan reprises his role as Senapathy, an ageing freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against corruption, with Siddharth, S. J. Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simha, Vivek, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Gulshan Grover, Samuthirakani and Nedumudi Venu in the ensemble cast. In the film, following years after the events in Indian, Senapathy returns from Taiwan to aid Chitra Aravindhan, who has been exposing corrupt politicians in the country through videos on the internet.

Indian 2β€”the hype created before the release of the movie with publicity as an all-time hit Indian sequelβ€”has not raised expectations; the efforts of director Shankar could not even touch the minimum level of expectations; the make-up is quite silly.Nothing much in the movie is worth entertaining; no seriousness is presented in the movie. The song “Thaatha varaaru” is a bit attractive as well, but the background score by Anirudh remains a big disappointment, though the iconic ‘Kappal eri poyaachu’  original bgm re-used version keeps the tempo on. The dialogues department could have done their home work well.

Technically, too, it lacks punch. The so-called makeup by Hollywood technicians looks bawdy. The camera work by Ravi Varman is substandard. Unnecessary effects and graphics were incorporated, especially in the zero gravity segment, some gold attire in the interval block, and the creation of some actors like Nedumudi Venu and Vivek using AI.

In some scenes, none of the dialogues has any spark, although many of them have already been heard or seen in earlier movies.Indian 2 is without doubt another badly made, big-budget film. Rehash of Indian and some political films about corruption, the film shatters all the hopes of director Shankar fans. Except for Sidharth and Kamal Haasan’s sincere performances, none of the aspects are praiseworthy. It falls flat. Shankar should be blamed for the fiasco because of his poorly written script, screenplay, and direction.

Poorly written scripts always questioned science and logic; for example, zero gravity sequences, metro scenes, climaxes, etc. Another weak point is that there are many characters with zero scope or nothing to do in the film. Compared to previous Shankar films, none of the action blocks were impressive in Indian 2. The cruel part is that the makers have already announced Indian 3, and the trailer is attached in post-credit. After the demise of writer Sujatha, Shankar single-handedly controlled the script, screenplay, and dialogues, which made Indian 2 more of a disaster.Three hours of running time is also a hurdle for viewers.

Bottomline

Poorly written Same old story, flat screenplay, cringe-worthy scenes, poor make-up, and silly dialogues.
