Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a 2023 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy, produced by Marvel Studios, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the third and final installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy film trilogy, the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), and the 32nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was written and directed by James Gunn, and stars an ensemble cast featuring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, Elizabeth Debicki, Maria Bakalova and Sylvester Stallone. In the film, the Guardians embark on a mission to protect Rocket (Cooper) from the High Evolutionary (Iwuji).
Guardians of the Galaxy is a funny, zany, irreverent movie filled with heart, action, great performances, and likable characters. I imagine that plenty of viewers will walk away from this movie with a smile on their face and in need of breath from all the laughs. The characters are one of the best things this film has working in its favor.Ā Ā
Right from the beginning, James Gunn takes this movie on a very engaging path . Funny how in its early days, this franchise’s closest things to an out-of-this-world idea were a suit of armor and an alien spaceships, talking raccoons, sentient trees, cyborg assassins, and green ninja ladies. This movie is just one of many examples of how Marvel is willing to tap into the wackier sides of its mythology in order to showcase its rich history.
One big surprise for this movie is how it manages to give so much personality to two largely-CGI characters. Bradley Cooper’s Rocket is a wisecracking, egotistical jackass, and I love him for it. His CGI never looks out of place, and he looks just as realistic as you can expect from a talking raccoon. And Vin Diesel is a standout as Groot. He only ever says 2 sentence throughout the movie, but we still get the full range of emotion and personality from his expressions and vocal intonations.
One big strength for Guardians is that you don’t need to watch any of the preceding MCU films if you want jump into this one. Apart from a few appearances by certain characters and an outline of the backstory of Rocket Guardians is mostly self-contained, and you should be able to easily follow along and enjoy yourself.
The music for this movie is done by John murphy, and he manages to sell great music when the situation calls for it. However, most of the music for this movie is done through Quill’s “Awesome Mixes,” which are essentially songs from the 80s and 90s. The addition of this kind of music gives Guardians a flavor that makes it stand out from other sci-fi flicks. Along with other MCU films, all the action is really well-done, and the final battle is a great showcase of visual effects and music.
Bottomline
James Gunn and the gang bring a perfect send off with a great level of thrills, humor and a real emotional punch..
