Garudan is a Tamil-language action thriller film, written and directed by R. S. Durai Senthilkumar, from a story by Vetrimaaran. It is jointly produced by Vetrimaaran’s Grass Root Film Company and K. Kumar’s Lark Studios. The film stars Soori, M. Sasikumar and Unni Mukundan in the lead roles. Revathi Sharma, Sshivada, Samuthirakani, Rajendran and Mime Gopi appear in supporting roles. It follows Sokkan, a trusted confidante of two childhood friends, Aadhi and Karuna, whose loyalty become changed by dynamic into betrayal and survival.

Despite all the situations seen in the rural action entertainer, Garudan is convinced only by Vetrimaaran’s political statement writing and director Durai Senthil Kumar’s gripping screenplay. But equally, Soori’s terrific performance, Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music, and Mahesh Mathews’ action scenes played a major role in the film’s success. The roles of Unni Mukundan, Sasikumar, Samuthirakani, and Sivada have been enhanced by each other. The director has given the audience an excellent rural mass entertainer in three themes, namely soil, woman, and gold.

The film starts at a slow pace and not only gets big at some places but also gives cliche moments touching on jealousy, cheating, and revenge plots. But well-developed characters make the movie strong even in those failures. The low number of elevation scenes in the film is overshadowed by the interval block and the final 20 minutes, which make up for the lack of elevation scenes to some extent.

Garudan is also the stepping stone of transformation and growth from Porotta Soori to performer Soori by deviating from comedy scenes.

Bottomline

A complete director’s craft: rural mass entertainer !!
