Garudan is a Malayalam-language crime drama thriller film directed by Arun Varma in his directorial debut, written by Midhun Manuel Thomas and produced by Listin Stephen. It stars Suresh Gopi and Biju Menon in the lead roles, alongside an ensemble cast including Jagadish, Siddique, Thalaivasal Vijay, Dileesh Pothan, Abhirami, Divya Pillai, Arjun Nandhakumar, Nishanth Sagar, Major Ravi and Jayan Cherthala.
The investigation film, which started on a low note and moved on with the usual crime scene, comes to life with the interval. Then, in the second half, the writing of the Midhun Manuel-Jinesh team gets stronger, and it reflects in the dialogues as well. Jake S. Bejoy’s music and the twists and turns during the breaks keep the audience hooked. Climax staging and detailing make the movie strong.
Although the usual template is the psychopath investigation, the film offers the necessary high moments. Biju Menon tries a different angle in his acting career with Garudan. Suresh Gopi has done a great job, even though it is not a challenging character. Thalaivasal Vijay and Vijay Siddique also did well.
The negative side is that the usual psycho killer template is hot off the previous films, and Suresh Gopi’s character could have been done by any actor. Not being emotionally strong drags Garudan into the watchable category.
Bottomline
Template story but still managed to entertain.. 2nd half and climax stand out!
