The Tamilnadu box office is starting 2023 with hot mode. The reason for that heat is that the films of the most bankable stars Vijay-Ajith movies VarisU and Thunivu, are coming on the same day. Thunivu, After Nerkonda Paarvai and Valimai, Ajith Kumar‘s third film with H Vinoth. Ajith‘s getup and characterisation and the presence of stars like Manju warrier ,Samudrakani are getting noticed. The reason behind the audience’s loss of faith in Thunivu is that the previous collaboration of director – star combo Valimai did not achieve the expected success . The songs that appeared in Gibran‘s music were only of average quality. Although the trailer of the film that was released was good, the discussion on the social media platform about similarities of Mankatha and Beast movies is backfired.

The trade hopes that Thunivu will find a niche for Ajith, who is clearly without a market outside of Tamil Nadu. The film’s worldwide theatrical rights were sold for over Rs 80 crore before its release. Although the film is lagging behind in terms of business, the film with VarisU has managed to gain traction in Tamil Nadu. A crisp 2 hour and 23 minute running time and a 1AM show will benefit the film in its early days. The fact that current production giant, Red Giant Movies has been roped in for distribution will enable Thunivu to play more theaters in Tamil Nadu than VarisU. Word of mouth is clearly the key beyond the early days.
