Darlings is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language black comedy drama film, co-written and directed by Jasmeet K. Reen, in her directorial debut, from a screenplay by Parveez Sheikh, and produced by Gauri Khan, Alia Bhatt (in her debut production), and Gaurav Verma under the banners Red Chillies Entertainment and Eternal Sunshine Productions. The film stars Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew in the lead roles.
What works
The subject handled by Darlings and the presentation style wrapped in dark comedy make it enjoyable. The director effectively interacts with the audience about the theme’s contemporary relevance. Excellent dialogue pieces also gave it strength. The movie sparkled with the excellent performances of the stars. Alia bhatt-Sefali Shah pair’s great performance and comedy timing supported the movie. The roles played by Vijay Verma and Roshan Mathew have been done beautifully
What not works
From the beginning to the end of the movie, It felt the ups and downs. Sometimes the film reaches its peak and falls down without being able to maintain that momentum. Often, the making and situation descends to the tele-serial level. There is a lack of logic in many places. In a movie where music is not important, music by Vishal Bhardwaj – Prashant Pillai team was mediocre .
