Expectations

Vikram‘s Cobra is hitting in theatres today, and the expectations are huge for the film as it marks the actor’s first theatrical release in three years. Since Vikram has not been able to deliver a convincing hit after the blockbuster Aniyan, the actor badly needs a break with Cobra. The expectations are high for the film, and the recently released trailer has added strength to the film’s buzz and Vikram impresses in many getups.

R Ajay Gnanamuthu, the director, is the main factor behind the hype of Cobra. Needless to say, his first two films, Demonte Colony and Imaika nodikal created quite a stir in Kollywood. Ajay is targeting a hat-trick at the box office.

With the addition of guaranteed AR Rahman, Cobra has become one of the most anticipated films in Kollywood in recent times.

A few other features also raise the expectations of the Cobra. It also marked the cinematic debut of Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan, and also the Tamil debut of KGF fame Srinidhi shetty.

What works

Mostly chiyaan Vikram hold the movie with his extraordinary performance, especially the interrogation scene will be show stealer for the movie and chiyaan proves what an actor he is. Meenakshi govinda Rajan is surprise package and impressive with her cute and bubbly role. Srinidhi shetty and mrinalini done decent job with their limited screen space. Roshan mathew is just brilliant and terrific in his Antagonist debut.

Some twist and turns are worked well on first half, and the mental games are interesting and brilliantly portrayed with mathematics.
AR Rahman is terrific with his world appeal Background score & some other country based scores in first half of the movie. Harish kannan camera angles feast for viewers and offers visually extravagant first half.

What not works

Interesting plot and Chiyaan vikram‘s characterization are badly misfired due to lack of emotional connection. Uncovincing screenplay misfired badly and bit confusing in many parts, especially the back story need some clarity. most of the twist and turns are not impressive because of confusing screenplay.

There are two love track here and not worked well. Vikram-Srinidhi shetty love track turns out to be a speed breaker in first half portions. Lot of unwanted scenes and characters are ruined the mood of the film. The film could have been better if cut more than 20minutes from 3hour running time.

Bottomline

Bit confusing psychological thriller !!!!
