Expectations

Indian film industry is looking forward to Brahmastra release Sep 9 in 2D, 3D & IMAX. It’s success will be a ray of hope for Bollywood in this boycott era. Good news is advance booking is encouraging. Promotions are not in your face & low key sure to strike the right vibes.

What works

Brahmastra begins as your typical, conventional boy meets girl love story, but it quickly moves on to the actual premise, which is letting Shiva embark on a journey with him to discover his ultimate purpose.
The lead actors, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, are adorable on screen and tried to carry the entire film on their shoulders with their performances. While Ranbir Kapoor gave his all, Alia also impressed with her performance.
Amitabh Bachchan as the guru, and Nagarjuna as Nandiastra, who has a commanding presence and instils fear simply by bulging those eyes. Then there’s superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who appears in an extended cameo as Vanarastra in a completely paisa vasool moment.

Mouni Roy is the film’s true find. She is simply fantastic and holds her own in this large cast, effortlessly shining as the nemesis. Other padding artists and children who played key roles performed admirably.
Multiple camera man’s cinematography work is adequate. Production values for this star-studded project are good.

What not works

Brahmastra is a fantasy adventure with an intriguing storyline that is marred by poor writing and an uninteresting screenplay. While talking about the serious subject, the unwanted love story as a speed breaker did not help the film. The result would have been much better if the director had focused on scene order and execution rather than wasting time on excessive VFX use. The songs in the film are audible on screen, but the background score is a complete letdown.

Bottomline

Lacks the punch!!!
