Agilan is a Tamil movie released on 10 Mar, 2023. The movie is directed by N. Kalyanakrishnan and featured jayam ravi, Priya Bhavani Sankar, Harish Uthaman and Tanya Ravichandran as lead characters. Other popular actor who was roped in for Agilan is Hareesh Peradi.

What works

Agilan discusses illegal sea traffic, which is rarely discussed. The narrative detailing clearly captures the director Kallyan‘s study of the subject in the first half. Furthermore, the characterization of Agilan, the titular character, has been refined. Sam CS adds a haunting background score to that brilliance. Priya Bhavani Shankar was content with the meaty role while Jayam Ravi slayed in the title role.
Harish Perati, Harish Uttaman, and Ranjith all did an excellent job in their roles.

What doesn’t work

After the excellent first half, the movie was going nowhere like a broken kite. Jayam Ravi‘s appearance as the father of a regular cringe hero was annoying. (ugly wig and get-up) The audience was also left confused when the writer-director lost his clarity near the climax. In an attempt to conclude something, the film loses its logic, creates confusion, and ends up as an average work of art.

Bottomline

The poorly written second half struggled with logical errors.
Towards the end, it lacks clarity.
