Bazooka is a Malayalam-language action thriller film written and directed by Deeno Dennis in his directorial debut. It is produced by Yoodlee Films and Theatre of Dreams, starring Mammootty and Gautham Vasudev Menon in the lead roles.
Mollywood film makers often prioritize grand climaxes, but the first two hours of a film are equally crucial in captivating the audience’s attention. A well-crafted narrative, engaging characters, and impactful music can elevate a film’s overall impact. However, the lack of impactful background scores in films like Bazooka detracts from the viewing experience.
While Bazooka’s narrative is interesting in the first half, it loses momentum and drags towards the climax. The final 20 minutes provide some high points, but the pacing feels off. Trimming unnecessary scenes could have improved the film’s flow and impact.
Technically, the film is superior, with Nimish Ravi’s camera work being brilliant and the well-shot action blocks being a highlight. Mammootty delivers a fabulous performance, and his swag is the main highlight of the film. The supporting cast, including Gautham Menon and others, does a neat job.
However, the repetitive music feels like a headache and could be improved. The film deserves better music and a background score to elevate the viewing experience. Despite its flaws, Bazooka has its moments, particularly in the last 20 minutes, but by the time the climax arrives, it’s already too late, and the audience may have lost interest.
A balanced approach to storytelling and music is crucial in creating a memorable and impactful film. With some refinement in these areas, Bazooka could have been a more engaging and effective film.
Bottomline
Trimming 10-15 minutes could have improved the flow and impact of the film. More balance in storytelling and music is needed to create a more engaging and effective viewing experience.
